Interzone at Geddes Gallery

the tunnel interznone

King's Cross, an area formerly known as a magnet for 'ladies of the night' and needle hounds has an appropriately seedy past for an exhibition inspired by Burroughs' cut-up technique, better still the Geddes Gallery is a former Italian deli, interior untouched since it was vacated this year.

The Tunnel art collective's Interzone was only on for one week-end but it will be remembered by the lucky few who get Burroughs and got to see this show.

Tracie Angiolini's info leaflets spread around the place would have been helpful to those unfamiliar with Old Bull Lee's work and life...

Another nice touch were the strips of texts cut from his books...

...collage featured prominently, of course, including good work by Jessica Ballantyne...

...I was impressed by Jamie Stanton's work too...

...one of his videos was featured upstairs along with others. Using footage from America's nuclear age materialistic boom may not be original but in this it was done very well and worked perfectly for the Burroughs theme...

...Jeannette Abi Khalil plastered some interesting work to the walls of the stairway, which we were invited to tear strips from...

Monika Tobel's work was outstanding...

...as you can see, the old house had some wallpaper that looked as if it had not been changed for a few decades; now damp-riddled and torn, like the rest of the place it created the perfect atmosphere...'Time falling...Image falling' - Break through in King's Cross rooms...The Tunnel collective opened fire and did an admirable job of evoking the spirit of El Hombre Invisible.
